Buick Enclave: Wiper Blade Replacement. Windshield Replacement

Buick Enclave 2008-2017 Owners Manual / Vehicle Care / Vehicle Checks / Wiper Blade Replacement. Windshield Replacement

Wiper Blade Replacement

Windshield wiper blades should be inspected regularly for wear, cracking, splitting, hardening, streaking, or poor contact with the glass. Worn wiper blades can reduce visibility during rain, snow, mist, road spray, and dirty driving conditions.

See Maintenance Schedule  for more information.

Good wiper blade condition is important for clear outward visibility. If the blades chatter, skip, leave streaks, smear water, or do not clear the windshield evenly, they should be replaced. Operating worn blades for too long can also allow the wiper frame or edge to scratch the glass.

Replacement blades come in different types and are removed in different ways. To replace the wiper blade assembly:

1. Pull the windshield wiper arm away from the windshield.

Lift the arm carefully and do not allow it to snap back against the glass. The spring tension in the arm can cause damage if the blade is removed and the arm strikes the windshield.

2. Press the button in the middle of the wiper arm connector and pull the wiper blade away from the arm connector.

3. Install the new wiper blade and make sure the wiper blade locks into place.

After installation, gently lower the wiper arm back onto the windshield and confirm the blade is seated securely. A blade that is not locked into the connector can come loose during operation and reduce visibility.

For the proper size and type, see Maintenance Replacement Parts.

Backglass Wiper Blade

To replace the backglass wiper blade:

1. Pull the wiper blade assembly away from the backglass.

The backglass wiper blade will not lock in a vertical position, so care should be used when pulling it away from the vehicle.

2. Rotate the wiper blade assembly, hold the wiper arm in position, and push the blade away from the wiper arm.

3. Replace the wiper blade.

4. Return the wiper arm and blade assembly to the rest position on the glass.

When replacing the rear blade, avoid twisting the arm or forcing the blade beyond its normal range of movement. Proper rear wiper operation helps maintain visibility through the backglass during wet weather and while reversing.

Windshield Replacement

The vehicle is equipped with an acoustic windshield. If the windshield ever has to be replaced, be sure to get an acoustic windshield so the vehicle continues to provide the benefits that this type of glass is designed to offer.

An acoustic windshield helps reduce certain outside noises from entering the cabin, contributing to a quieter and more comfortable driving experience. Replacing it with non-acoustic glass may change the noise level inside the vehicle and reduce the refinement originally designed into the Buick Enclave.

When windshield replacement is performed, the correct glass type, proper installation method, and careful sealing are important. A properly installed windshield helps prevent wind noise, water leaks, and fitment problems around the glass opening.
