Engine Oil Messages

CHANGE ENGINE OIL SOON

This message appears when the engine oil needs to be changed.

After changing the engine oil, reset the CHANGE ENGINE OIL SOON message so the oil life system can begin tracking the next service interval correctly. See Engine Oil Life System for information about resetting the message. See Engine Oil and Maintenance Schedule for more information about proper oil service.

OIL PRESSURE LOW STOP ENGINE

Notice: Driving while engine oil pressure is low can cause severe engine damage. If a low oil pressure warning appears on the instrument panel cluster and/or the DIC, stop the vehicle as soon as safely possible. Do not continue driving until the cause of the low oil pressure has been corrected.

See Engine Oil for more information.

This message appears when low engine oil pressure is detected. Stop the vehicle as soon as it is safe to do so and do not operate it again until the cause has been found and corrected. Check the oil level as soon as possible and have the vehicle serviced by your dealer. See Engine Oil.

Engine Power Mes

ENGINE POWER IS REDUCED

This message appears and a chime may sound when the cooling system temperature becomes too high and the engine enters a protection mode to help reduce the risk of damage.

See Engine Overheating for further information.

This message can also appear when the engine power output has been reduced for another reason. Reduced engine power may affect acceleration, passing ability, and overall vehicle response. If the message is displayed but performance does not seem reduced, the vehicle may be driven to the destination with caution. However, performance may be reduced the next time the vehicle is driven.

The Buick Enclave may still be driven at a reduced speed while this message is displayed, but acceleration and maximum speed can be limited. Whenever this message stays on, the vehicle should be taken to your dealer for service as soon as possible.

Fuel System Messages

FUEL LEVEL LOW

This message appears and a chime sounds when the fuel level is low. Refuel as soon as possible to avoid running out of fuel.

See Fuel Gauge and Fuel for more information.

TIGHTEN GAS CAP

This message may appear together with the check engine light on the instrument panel cluster if the fuel cap is not tightened correctly. See Malfunction Indicator Lamp. Remove and reinstall the fuel cap fully, making sure it is properly seated. See Filling the Tank.

The diagnostic system can detect when the fuel cap has been left off, installed incorrectly, or not tightened enough. A loose or missing fuel cap allows fuel vapors to escape into the atmosphere and can trigger an emissions-related warning. After the cap is properly installed, a few normal driving trips should turn the light and message off.
