Buick Enclave: Driver Information Center (DIC)

Buick Enclave 2008-2017 Owners Manual / Instruments and Controls / Information Displays / Driver Information Center (DIC)

Your Buick Enclave is equipped with a Driver Information Center (DIC), which provides important vehicle information directly in the instrument panel cluster.

The DIC displays key operating details about the vehicle and also shows warning messages when a system condition or possible problem is detected.

All DIC messages appear in the display located at the top of the instrument panel cluster, allowing the driver to review vehicle status information without searching through separate controls.

The DIC turns on when the ignition is on. After a brief delay, it displays the same type of information that was shown before the engine was last turned off.

The DIC also shows the shift lever position indicator on the bottom line of the display. See Automatic Transmission for more information.

The outside air temperature and compass, if equipped, can also appear in the DIC while viewing trip and fuel information. The outside air temperature automatically appears in the upper right corner of the DIC display. If the system that controls the temperature display has a problem, the numbers may be replaced with dashes. If this occurs, have the vehicle serviced.

The compass, when equipped, appears in the lower right corner of the DIC display. See Compass for more information.

The DIC includes several different display screens that can be accessed by pressing the DIC buttons located on the instrument panel.

Through these displays, the Buick Enclave can show trip information, fuel data, vehicle system status, and warning messages when a system requires attention.

The DIC also allows certain vehicle features to be customized according to driver preference. See Vehicle Personalization for more information.

Vehicle Information Menu Items

Vehicle information button used to scroll through DIC menu items (Vehicle Information): Press this button to scroll through the following menu items:

OIL LIFE

Press the vehicle information button until OIL LIFE REMAINING appears on the display. This screen shows an estimate of the remaining useful life of the engine oil. For example, if 99% OIL LIFE REMAINING is displayed, it means that 99% of the current oil life remains.

The engine oil life system calculates oil life based on operating conditions, helping determine when an oil change is needed rather than relying only on mileage. Driving habits, engine temperature, trip length, and other conditions can affect how quickly the oil life percentage decreases.

When the remaining oil life becomes low, the CHANGE ENGINE OIL SOON message will appear on the display.

See “CHANGE ENGINE OIL SOON” under Engine Oil Messages. The oil should be changed as soon as possible after this message appears. See Engine Oil. In addition to monitoring oil life through the DIC, the Buick Enclave should still be maintained according to the Maintenance Schedule provided in this manual.

See Maintenance Schedule for more information.

Remember that the OIL LIFE display must be reset manually after each oil change. The system does not reset itself automatically after the oil has been replaced.

Be careful not to reset the OIL LIFE display by accident or at any time other than immediately after an oil change. If it is reset at the wrong time, the system will not be able to provide an accurate oil life estimate until the next oil change is completed.

To reset the engine oil life system, see Engine Oil Life System.

PARK ASSIST

If your Buick Enclave is equipped with the Ultrasonic Rear Parking Assist (URPA) system, press the vehicle information button until PARK ASSIST appears on the Driver Information Center display.

This display allows the parking assist system to be turned on or off. Once this screen is shown, press the set/reset button to choose ON or OFF. Selecting ON activates the system, while selecting OFF turns it off.

The URPA system automatically turns back on each time the vehicle is started. If the system has been turned off and the vehicle is shifted out of P (Park), the DIC will display the PARK ASSIST OFF message as a reminder that the system is currently disabled.

See Object Detection System Messages and Ultrasonic Parking Assist for more information.

UNITS

Press the vehicle information button until UNITS appears on the display.

This display allows the driver to choose between English and metric units of measurement. Once the UNITS screen is displayed, press the set/reset button to select either ENGLISH or METRIC. After a selection is made, vehicle information will be shown using the chosen measurement system.

FRONT TIRES or REAR TIRES

On vehicles equipped with the Tire Pressure Monitor System (TPMS), the pressure for each tire can be viewed through the DIC. Tire pressure may be displayed in either kilopascals (kPa) or pounds per square inch (psi), depending on the selected unit setting.

Press the vehicle information button until the DIC displays FRONT TIRES kPa (PSI) LEFT ## RIGHT ##. Press the vehicle information button again until the DIC displays REAR TIRES kPa (PSI) LEFT ## RIGHT ##.

If the system detects a low tire pressure condition while driving, a message will appear in the display advising that air should be added to a specific tire. See Tire Pressure and Tire Messages for more information.

If the tire pressure display shows dashes instead of a value, there may be a problem with the system or with the vehicle’s ability to read the tire pressure sensors.

If this condition continues, have the Buick Enclave inspected by your dealer for service.

COMPASS ZONE SETTING

This display is available if the vehicle is equipped with a compass.

See Compass for more information about setting the correct compass zone for the area where the vehicle is being driven.

COMPASS RECALIBRATION

This display is available if the vehicle is equipped with a compass.

See Compass for more information about recalibrating the compass when the heading display appears inaccurate or when calibration is required.

Blank Display

This display shows no information. It can be used when the driver does not want any trip, fuel, or vehicle information shown in that part of the DIC.

Trip/Fuel Menu Items

Trip and fuel button used to scroll through odometer fuel range economy timer and average speed menu items (Trip/Fuel): Press this button to scroll through the following menu items:

ODOMETER

Press the trip/fuel button until ODOMETER appears. This display shows the total distance the Buick Enclave has been driven, shown in either kilometers (km) or miles (mi).

To switch between English and metric measurements, see “UNITS” earlier in this section.

TRIPA and TRIP B

Press the trip/fuel button until TRIPA or TRIP B appears.

This display shows the distance traveled in either kilometers (km) or miles (mi) since the selected trip odometer was last reset. TRIPA and TRIP B can be used independently, which is useful for tracking separate trips, fuel stops, routes, or service intervals.

Each trip odometer can be reset to zero separately by pressing the set/reset button while the desired trip odometer is displayed.

The trip odometer also includes a retroactive reset feature. This feature can set the trip odometer to the number of kilometers or miles driven since the ignition was last turned on. It can be helpful if the trip odometer was not reset at the beginning of a trip.

This allows the Buick Enclave driver to recover trip distance information for the current ignition cycle without needing to estimate the distance manually.

To use the retroactive reset feature, press and hold the set/reset button for at least four seconds. The trip odometer will then display the number of kilometers (km) or miles (mi) driven since the ignition was last turned on and the vehicle began moving. Once the vehicle starts moving again, the trip odometer will continue adding distance from that point.

For example, if the Buick Enclave was driven 8 km (5 mi) before being started again, and the retroactive reset feature is then activated, the display will show 8 km (5 mi). As the vehicle continues moving, the display will increase to 8.2 km (5.1 mi), 8.4 km (5.2 mi), and so on.

If the retroactive reset feature is activated after the vehicle is started but before it begins moving, the display will show the number of kilometers (km) or miles (mi) driven during the previous ignition cycle.

RANGE

Press the trip/fuel button until RANGE appears on the Driver Information Center display. This screen shows the approximate number of remaining kilometers (km) or miles (mi) the vehicle can be driven before refueling is needed. If the fuel level is very low, the display will show LOW instead of a distance estimate.

The fuel range estimate is calculated using recent fuel economy history and the amount of fuel remaining in the tank. Because it is an estimate, the displayed number can change as driving conditions, speed, traffic, terrain, and driver behavior change.

For example, stop-and-go city driving may show a lower range because fuel consumption is typically higher in traffic. Highway driving may show a higher range, even with the same amount of fuel in the tank, because steady-speed driving often produces better fuel economy.

Fuel range cannot be reset manually. The Buick Enclave updates this value automatically as fuel level and driving conditions change.

AVG (Average) ECONOMY

Press the trip/fuel button until AVG ECONOMY appears on the display.

This display shows the approximate average fuel economy in liters per 100 kilometers (L/100 km) or miles per gallon (mpg), depending on the selected unit setting. The value is calculated from fuel economy data recorded since the last time this menu item was reset.

To reset AVG ECONOMY, press and hold the set/reset button while AVG ECONOMY is displayed. After the reset, the system will begin calculating a new average based on current driving conditions.

TIMER

Press the trip/fuel button until TIMER appears. This display can be used as a trip timer or general driving-time counter.

To start the timer, press the set/reset button while TIMER is displayed. The display will show the amount of time that has passed since the timer was last reset, not including the time when the ignition is off.

The timer continues counting as long as the ignition is on, even if another Driver Information Center display is selected. The timer can record up to 99 hours, 59 minutes, and 59 seconds (99:59:59). After that limit is reached, the display returns to zero.

To stop the timer, briefly press the set/reset button while TIMER is displayed.

To reset the timer to zero, press and hold the set/reset button while TIMER is displayed.

FUEL USED

Press the trip/fuel button until FUEL USED appears. This display shows the amount of fuel used since the last reset of this menu item, shown in liters (L) or gallons (gal), depending on the selected unit setting.

To reset the fuel used information, press and hold the set/reset button while FUEL USED is displayed. This can be useful when tracking fuel consumption for a specific trip, route, or driving period in the Buick Enclave.

AVG (Average) SPEED

Press the trip/fuel button until AVG SPEED appears. This display shows the vehicle’s average speed in kilometers per hour (km/h) or miles per hour (mph).

The average speed is calculated using the different vehicle speeds recorded since the last reset of this value. To reset the average speed to zero, press and hold the set/reset button while AVG SPEED is displayed.

This feature can help the Buick Enclave driver review overall trip speed, especially after highway travel, city driving, or mixed-route use.

Blank Display

This display shows no information. It can be selected when the driver prefers a cleaner Driver Information Center screen without active trip, fuel, or timer data shown.
