Buick Enclave: Remote Vehicle Start
This vehicle may be equipped with a remote start feature that allows the engine to be started from outside the Buick Enclave. This can help prepare the cabin before entering the vehicle, especially during very hot or cold weather.
(Remote Start): This button is located
on the RKE transmitter when the vehicle is equipped with remote start.
Some communities have laws that limit or regulate the use of remote starters.
For example, certain local regulations may require the person using remote start to keep the vehicle within sight while the engine is running. Always check local requirements before using remote start.
Do not use remote start when the vehicle is low on fuel.
The vehicle could run out of fuel while the engine is running.
If the Buick Enclave has remote start, the RKE transmitter may offer an increased operating range for this function. However, the range can be reduced while the vehicle is already running.
Other conditions can also affect transmitter performance, including nearby interference, battery condition, distance, and surrounding objects. See Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) System for additional information.
Starting the Engine Using Remote Start
To start the vehicle:
1. Aim the RKE transmitter at the vehicle.
2. Press and release
on the RKE transmitter.
3. Immediately after completing Step 2, press and hold
until the parking lamps flash. If the
vehicle's lights cannot be seen, press and hold
for at least four seconds.
When the engine starts, the parking lamps turn on and remain illuminated while the engine is running.
The doors remain locked, and the climate control system operates automatically if the Buick Enclave has the automatic climate system. Otherwise, the system returns to the setting used when the vehicle was last turned off.
If the vehicle has automatic climate control and heated seats, the heated seats may turn on during colder outside temperatures. They turn off when the key is turned to ON/RUN. See Heated and Ventilated Front Seats for more information.
The rear window defogger and heated mirrors, if equipped, may also turn on during colder outside temperatures and turn off when the key is turned to ON/RUN.
After entering the vehicle during a remote start, insert the key and turn it to the ON/RUN position before driving.
If the vehicle is left running, it will automatically shut off after 10 minutes unless the run time has been extended.
Extending Engine Run Time
To extend engine run time by 10 minutes, repeat Steps 1 through 3 while the engine is still running. The run time can be extended only if this is the first remote start since the vehicle was last driven. Remote start can be extended one time.
If the remote start procedure is used again before the first 10-minute period ends, the first period immediately expires and the second 10-minute period begins.
For example, if
and then
are pressed again after the vehicle
has been running for five minutes, 10 minutes are added, allowing the engine to run for a total of 15 minutes.
► A maximum of two remote starts or remote start attempts are allowed between ignition cycles.
After the engine has been started twice using the remote start button, the ignition must be turned on and then back off before the remote start procedure can be used again.
Shutting the Engine Off After a Remote Start
To manually shut off a remote start:
► Aim the RKE transmitter at the vehicle and press
until the parking lamps turn off.
► Turn on the hazard warning flashers.
► Turn the ignition switch on and then off.
Conditions in Which the Remote Start Will Not Work
The vehicle cannot be started with the remote start feature if the key is in the ignition, the hood is open, or an emission control system malfunction is present.
The engine will shut off during a remote start if coolant temperature becomes too high or engine oil pressure becomes too low.
Used correctly, remote start can make the Buick Enclave more comfortable before a trip, but it should always be used with enough fuel, proper ventilation, and attention to local rules.
