Buick Enclave: Radio Reception. Multi-Band Antenna

Buick Enclave 2008-2017 Owners Manual / Infotainment System / Radio / Radio Reception. Multi-Band Antenna

Radio Reception

Frequency interference and static may occur during normal radio reception, especially when electronic accessories are connected to the accessory power outlet. Items such as cell phone chargers, convenience accessories, or portable electronic devices can sometimes create noise that affects the radio signal. If static or interference is heard in the Buick Enclave audio system, unplug the device from the accessory power outlet and check whether reception improves.

FM

FM signals usually reach about 16 to 65 km (10 to 40 mi), depending on terrain, station strength, and surrounding conditions. Although the radio includes an electronic circuit designed to reduce interference automatically, some static may still occur. This is more likely near tall buildings, hills, or other obstructions that can cause the signal to fade in and out.

AM

The range of most AM stations is usually greater than FM, especially at night. Because AM signals can travel longer distances, station frequencies may sometimes overlap or interfere with one another. For better daytime reception, many AM stations increase power levels during the day and reduce them at night. Static can also occur when storms, power lines, or other electrical sources interfere with reception. When this happens, reducing the treble setting on the radio may make the sound easier to listen to.

XM™ Satellite Radio Service

XM Satellite Radio Service provides digital radio reception across the 48 contiguous United States and in Canada when service is active and the signal is available. As with FM reception, tall buildings, hills, and other large obstructions can interfere with the signal and cause the sound to fade in and out. Driving or parking under heavy tree cover, bridges, garages, or through tunnels may also cause the XM signal to be lost temporarily.

Cellular Phone Usage

Using a cellular phone may cause interference with the vehicle's radio reception.

This interference may occur while making a call, receiving a call, charging the phone battery, or simply leaving the phone powered on inside the vehicle.

The interference may increase static while listening to the radio. If static is heard and a cellular phone is connected or operating nearby, unplug the phone and turn it off to see if reception improves.

Multi-Band Antenna

The multi-band antenna is located on the roof of the Buick Enclave.

This antenna supports the AM/FM radio and, when equipped, the OnStar system and XM Satellite Radio Service. For clear radio reception, keep the antenna area free of snow, ice, and other buildup. If the vehicle has a sunroof, radio performance may be affected when the sunroof is open. Loading cargo or accessories onto the roof can also interfere with the radio system and, if equipped, OnStar operation. Make sure the multi-band antenna remains unobstructed so the system can receive signals properly.
