Buick Enclave: Keys. Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) System. Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) System Operation
Keys
WARNING
Leaving children in a vehicle with the ignition key is dangerous for many reasons.
Children or others could be seriously injured or even killed. They could operate the
power windows or other controls or even make the vehicle move.
The windows will function with the keys in the ignition, and children could be seriously injured or killed if caught in the path of a closing window. Do not leave the keys in a vehicle with children.

The key is used for the ignition and all door locks.
The key includes a bar-coded key tag that a dealer or qualified locksmith can use to make replacement keys. Store this information in a safe place, but do not keep it inside the vehicle.
See your dealer if a replacement key or an additional key is needed.
Notice: If the keys are locked inside the vehicle, damage may be required to retrieve them. Always carry a spare key.
If you are locked out of the Buick Enclave, call Roadside Assistance. See Roadside Assistance Program (U.S. and Canada) or Roadside Assistance Program (Mexico).
With an active OnStar subscription, an OnStar Advisor may be able to unlock the vehicle remotely. See OnStar Overview.
Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) System
See Radio Frequency Statement for information regarding Part 15 of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) rules and Industry Canada Standards RSS-GEN/210/220/310.
If the Remote Keyless Entry transmitter range becomes shorter than normal, check the following items before requesting service:
► Check the distance.
The transmitter may be too far from the vehicle.
► Check the location. Other vehicles, walls, buildings, or large objects may be blocking the signal.
► Check the transmitter battery.
See “Battery Replacement” later in this section.
► If the transmitter still does not operate correctly, see your dealer or a qualified technician for service.
For dependable daily use, keep the Buick Enclave RKE transmitter dry, avoid dropping it, and replace the battery when the operating range begins to fall off noticeably.
Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) System Operation
The Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitter is designed to operate from as far as 60 m (195 ft) away from the Buick Enclave, depending on surrounding conditions.
Signal range can be affected by distance, nearby objects, radio interference, transmitter battery condition, and the position of the vehicle. See Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) System.

Programming Transmitters to the Vehicle
Only RKE transmitters programmed specifically to this vehicle will operate it. If a transmitter is lost or stolen, a replacement can be purchased and programmed through your dealer.
When a replacement transmitter is programmed to the Buick Enclave, all remaining transmitters must also be reprogrammed so the system recognizes them correctly.
After the new programming is completed, any lost or stolen transmitters will no longer operate the vehicle.
Each vehicle can have up to eight transmitters programmed to it.
See your dealer to have transmitters programmed to this vehicle.
Battery Replacement
Replace the transmitter battery when the REPLACE BATTERY IN REMOTE KEY message appears in the DIC.
Notice: When replacing the battery, do not touch any of the circuitry inside the transmitter.
Static electricity from your body could damage the transmitter.

1. Separate the transmitter using a flat, thin object, such as a flat-head screwdriver.
► Carefully insert the tool into the notch along the transmitter parting line. Do not push the tool in too far. Stop as soon as resistance is felt.
► Twist the tool gently until the transmitter separates.
2. Remove the old battery. Do not use a metal object to pry it out.
3. Insert the new battery with the positive side facing down. Use a CR2032 battery or an equivalent replacement.
4. Snap the transmitter halves back together securely.
A weak transmitter battery can reduce remote range before it fails completely, so replacing it promptly helps keep lock, unlock, remote start, liftgate, and panic alarm functions working reliably in everyday Buick Enclave use.
