Buick Enclave: Safety Belt Extender. Safety System Check. Safety Belt Care

Buick Enclave 2008-2017 Owners Manual / Seats and Restraints / Safety Belts / Safety Belt Extender. Safety System Check. Safety Belt Care

Safety Belt Extender

If the vehicle safety belt fits around you and can be buckled properly, use the standard safety belt without an extender.

If the safety belt is not long enough, your dealer can order a safety belt extender. When ordering one, wear or bring the heaviest coat you normally use so the correct extender length can be selected. To help avoid injury, do not allow anyone else to use your extender, and use it only in the seating position for which it was designed. The extender is intended for adult occupants only.

Never use a safety belt extender to secure a child restraint.

To use the extender, attach it to the regular safety belt. For complete details, refer to the instruction sheet supplied with the extender.

Safety System Check

From time to time, inspect the safety belt system to make sure it is working properly. Check the safety belt reminder light, belts, buckles, latch plates, retractors, and anchorages. Also look for loose, damaged, torn, or frayed parts that could prevent the safety belt system from performing correctly.

If any part of the system appears worn or damaged, see your dealer for repair. Torn or frayed safety belts may not protect occupants in a crash because they can tear apart under impact forces. Replace damaged belts right away.

Make sure the safety belt reminder light is operating correctly. See Safety Belt Reminders for more information.

Keep safety belts clean and dry.

See Safety Belt Care.

Do not bleach or dye safety belts.

Bleach, dye, or harsh chemicals can severely weaken the belt webbing.

In a crash, weakened safety belts might not provide the protection they are designed to give.

Clean safety belts only with mild soap and lukewarm water.

After cleaning, allow the belt webbing to dry completely before allowing it to retract fully into the trim.
