Buick Enclave: Airbag System
The vehicle is equipped with the following airbags:
► A frontal airbag for the driver.
► A frontal airbag for the front outboard passenger.
► A seat-mounted side impact airbag for the driver.
► A seat-mounted side impact airbag for the front outboard passenger.
► A roof-rail airbag for the driver and for the second and third row passengers seated directly behind the driver.
► A roof-rail airbag for the front outboard passenger and for the second and third row passengers seated directly behind the front outboard passenger.
All airbags in the vehicle are identified by the word AIRBAG on the trim or on an attached label near the deployment opening.
For frontal airbags, the word AIRBAG appears on the center of the steering wheel for the driver and on the instrument panel for the front outboard passenger.
For seat-mounted side impact airbags, the word AIRBAG appears on the side of the seatback closest to the door.
For roof-rail airbags, the word AIRBAG appears on the ceiling or trim area.
Airbags are designed to add to the protection provided by safety belts. Although modern airbags are engineered to help reduce injury risk from the force of deployment, they must inflate extremely quickly to work as intended.
Here are the most important points to understand about the airbag system in the Buick Enclave:
WARNING
You can be severely injured or killed in a crash if you are not wearing your safety belt, even when airbags are provided. Airbags are designed to work with safety belts, not replace them. Airbags also do not inflate in every crash. In some crashes, safety belts are the only restraint.
See When Should an Airbag Inflate?
Wearing your safety belt during a crash helps reduce the chance of striking objects inside the vehicle or being ejected from it. Airbags are supplemental restraints to the safety belts. Everyone in the vehicle should wear a safety belt properly, whether or not there is an airbag for that seating position.
WARNING
Because airbags inflate with great force and faster than the blink of an eye, anyone who is against or very close to an airbag when it inflates can be seriously injured or killed. Do not sit unnecessarily close to any airbag, such as on the edge of the seat or leaning forward. Safety belts help keep occupants in position before and during a crash. Always wear a safety belt, even with airbags. The driver should sit as far back as possible while still maintaining full control of the vehicle.
Occupants should not lean or sleep against the door or side windows in seating positions with seat-mounted side impact airbags and/or roof-rail airbags.
WARNING
Children who are against or very close to any airbag when it inflates can be seriously injured or killed. Airbags and lap-shoulder belts provide protection for adults and older children, but not for young children and infants.
Neither the safety belt system nor the airbag system is designed to properly protect very young children by itself. Young children and infants need the protection of an appropriate child restraint system. Always secure children correctly in the vehicle. To learn how, see Older Children or Infants and Young Children.

There is an airbag readiness light on the instrument panel cluster that displays the airbag symbol.
The system checks the airbag electrical system for malfunctions.
This light tells the driver if an electrical problem is detected. See Airbag Readiness Light for more information.
For safe Buick Enclave operation, every occupant should sit upright, keep the proper distance from the airbags, and wear the safety belt correctly on every trip. Airbags provide added protection, but they are only one part of the complete restraint system.
