Buick Enclave: Rear Seat Entertainment (RSE) System
The Buick Enclave may be equipped with a DVD Rear Seat Entertainment (RSE) system.
The RSE system works together with the vehicle's audio system. The DVD player is built into the front radio, allowing rear seat entertainment features to be controlled through the vehicle infotainment equipment.
The RSE system includes a radio with a DVD player, a video display screen, audio/video jacks, two wireless headphones, and a remote control. See Operation for more information on the vehicle's infotainment system.
Before Driving
The RSE system is designed for rear seat passengers only. The driver cannot safely view the video screen while driving and should not attempt to watch or operate the screen in a way that causes distraction.
In severe or extreme weather conditions, the RSE system may not operate until the cabin temperature is within the proper operating range. The operating range for the RSE system is above −20°C (−4°F) and below 60°C (140°F). If the temperature inside the Buick Enclave is outside this range, heat or cool the vehicle until the system is within its normal operating temperature range.
Parental Control
The RSE system may include a Parental Control feature, depending on the radio installed in the vehicle.
To enable Parental Control, press and hold the radio power button for more than two seconds. This stops system features such as the radio, video screen, RSA, DVD, and/or CD operation. While Parental Control is active,
displays.
When the radio is turned back on, Parental Control is unlocked and normal system operation can resume.
Headphones

A. Battery cover
B. Channel 1 or 2 switch
C. Power button
D. Volume control
E. Power indicator light
The Rear Seat Entertainment (RSE) system includes two dedicated 2-channel wireless headphones. Channel 1 is assigned to the video screen, while Channel 2 is assigned to Rear Seat Audio (RSA) selections. These headphones allow rear passengers in the Buick Enclave to listen to supported media sources such as CDs, DVDs, MP3/WMA files, DVD-A discs, radio, an auxiliary source connected to the A/V jacks, or the auxiliary input jack when the vehicle is equipped with this feature.
The wireless headphones include a power button, a Channel 1 or Channel 2 selector switch, and an individual volume control. Turn the headphones off when they are not being used to help preserve battery life.
Press the power button to turn on the headphones. When the headphones are powered on, the indicator light on the headphones turns on. If the indicator light does not come on, the batteries may need to be replaced. Intermittent sound, weak audio, or static in the headphones can also indicate that the batteries are low.
See “Battery Replacement” later in this section for more information.
To adjust headphone volume, use the volume control located on the right side of the headphones.
Infrared transmitters are located at the rear of the RSE overhead console. The headphones receive audio through these transmitters. To help save battery power, the headphones shut off automatically if the RSE system and RSA are turned off, or if the headphones remain out of range of the transmitters for more than three minutes. Moving too far forward in the cabin or stepping outside the Buick Enclave can cause the headphones to lose the audio signal.
For the best audio performance, the headphones must be worn correctly.
Wear the headphones with the headband positioned over the top of the head for proper reception and comfort.
The symbol L (Left) appears on the outside bottom edge of one ear cup and should be positioned over the left ear. The symbol R (Right) appears on the outside bottom edge of the other ear cup and should be positioned over the right ear.
Notice: Do not store the headphones in heat or direct sunlight. Excessive heat can damage the headphones, and repairs for this type of damage will not be covered by the warranty.
Storage in extreme cold can weaken the batteries. Keep the headphones stored in a cool, dry place.
If the foam ear pads attached to the headphones become worn, cracked, loose, or damaged, the pads can be replaced separately from the headphone set.
To purchase replacement ear pads, call 1-888-293-3332, then select prompt zero (0), or contact your dealer.
Headphones should be stored in the front floor console and not in the front seat back pocket. Damage may occur if the headphones are stored in the seat back pocket and the second row seats are folded forward.
Battery Replacement
To replace the batteries in the headphones:
1. Turn the screw to loosen the battery door located on the left side of the headphones.
Slide the battery door open.
2. Replace the two batteries in the compartment. Make sure the batteries are installed in the correct direction by following the diagram inside the battery compartment.
3. Reinstall the battery door and tighten the door screw securely.
If the headphones will be stored for a long period of time, remove the batteries and keep them in a cool, dry place. This helps prevent battery leakage and protects the headphones from damage.
Audio/Video (A/V) Jacks

A. Yellow: Video Input
B. White: Left Audio Input
C. Red: Right Audio Input
The A/V jacks are color coded to match the standard connection layout used by many home entertainment devices.
The A/V jacks are located on the rear of the floor console. They allow audio or video signals from an auxiliary device, such as a camcorder, video game console, or other compatible media device, to be connected to the RSE system. Adapter connectors or cables, which are not supplied with the vehicle, may be required to connect some devices to the A/V jacks.
Refer to the auxiliary device manufacturer’s instructions for proper connection, operation, and compatibility information.
Power for auxiliary devices is not supplied by the radio system. Any connected device must use its own battery power or a separate power source.
To use the auxiliary inputs of the RSE system, connect the external auxiliary device to the color-coded A/V jacks, then turn on both the auxiliary device and the video screen. If the video screen is in DVD player mode, pressing the AUX (auxiliary) button on the remote control switches the video screen from DVD player mode to the connected auxiliary device. The radio can also play the audio from the connected auxiliary device by selecting the auxiliary source. See Auxiliary Devices for more information.
How to Change the RSE Video Screen Settings
The screen display mode, screen brightness, and setup menu language can be changed from the on-screen setup menu by using the remote control. Available display modes may include normal, full, and zoom, depending on the video source and screen settings.
To change a setting:
1. Press
.
2. Use

menu.
3. Press
again to remove the setup
menu from the screen.
Audio Output
Audio from the DVD player or from connected auxiliary inputs in the Buick Enclave can be heard through the following sources:
► Wireless headphones
► Vehicle speakers
► Vehicle-wired headphone jacks on the RSA system, if the vehicle is equipped with this feature.
The RSE system sends the audio signal to the wireless headphones whenever an audio source is available. This allows rear seat passengers to listen privately without changing what front seat passengers hear through the main vehicle speakers. See “Headphones” earlier in this section for more information.
The DVD player can also send audio to the wired headphone jacks on the Rear Seat Audio (RSA) system, if the Buick Enclave has this equipment. The DVD player can be selected as an audio source through the RSA system, allowing rear passengers to choose DVD audio independently when the system supports it. See Rear Seat Audio (RSA) System for more information.
When an external device is connected to the A/V jacks, or to the radio's auxiliary input jack if the vehicle has this feature, rear seat passengers can listen to audio from that device through the wireless or wired headphones. Front seat passengers can hear playback from the same connected device through the vehicle speakers by selecting AUX as the source on the radio.
Video Screen
The video screen is located in the overhead console. When the screen is not being used, push it upward into the locked position to keep it stored securely and out of the way.
To use the video screen:
1. Push the release button located on the overhead console.
2. Move the screen into the desired viewing position.
If a DVD is playing and the screen is raised into the locked position, the screen remains on. This is normal operation. The DVD continues playing through the previously selected audio source, even though the display has been folded up.
Press
on the remote control or eject the disc to turn off the screen.
The infrared receivers for the wireless headphones and the remote control are located at the rear of the overhead console. For proper operation, keep this area clear and avoid blocking the signal path between the remote control, headphones, and receiver area.
Notice: Avoid touching the video screen directly, because pressure, fingerprints, or improper cleaning can damage the display surface. See “Cleaning the Video Screen” later in this section for more information.
Remote Control

To use the remote control, aim it toward the transmitter window at the rear of the overhead console and press the desired button. The remote control works best when there is a clear line of sight between the remote and the receiver area.
Direct sunlight or very bright light can interfere with the RSE transmitter and may reduce its ability to receive commands from the remote control. If the remote control does not appear to work correctly, the batteries may need to be replaced.
See “Battery Replacement” later in this section. Objects between the remote control and the overhead console receiver can also affect remote control operation.
If a CD or DVD is inserted in the radio DVD slot, the remote control
button can be used to turn on the video screen display and start the disc.
The radio can also turn on the video screen display, depending on the selected source and system operation. See Operation for more information.
Notice: Storing the remote control in a hot area or in direct sunlight can damage it, and repairs for this type of damage will not be covered by the warranty. Storage in extreme cold can weaken the batteries. Keep the remote control stored in a cool, dry place when it is not being used.
