Buick Enclave: Floor Mats

Warning about incorrect floor mat installation interfering with pedalsWARNING
If a floor mat is the wrong size or is not properly installed, it can interfere with the accelerator pedal and/or brake pedal.

Interference with the pedals can cause unintended acceleration and/or increased stopping distance which can cause a crash and injury. Make sure the floor mat does not interfere with the pedals.

Floor mats must fit the floor area correctly and remain locked in place. A mat that slides forward, curls at the edge, or stacks on top of another mat can move into the pedal area and create a serious driving hazard.

Use the following guidelines for proper floor mat usage.

► The original equipment floor mats were designed for your vehicle. If the floor mats need replacing, it is recommended that GM certified floor mats be purchased. Non-GM floor mats may not fit properly and may interfere with the accelerator or brake pedal. Always check that the floor mats do not interfere with the pedals.

For the Buick Enclave, the correct driver-side mat should align with the floor shape, pedal clearance, and retaining points. A mat that looks close in size but does not lock into the retainers can still be unsafe.

► Use the floor mat with the correct side up. Do not turn it over.

A reversed floor mat may not grip the carpet correctly and may not line up with the retainer system.

► Do not place anything on top of the driver side floor mat.

Loose items, towels, temporary mats, or protective covers can slide forward and interfere with the accelerator or brake pedal.

► Use only a single floor mat on the driver side.

► Do not place one floor mat on top of another.

Stacking mats changes the height and movement of the floor surface. Even if the upper mat seems stable when parked, it can shift while braking, turning, or entering the vehicle.

Button Retainer

Floor mats with a button-type retainer use the carpet-mounted buttons to hold the mat in the correct position. The openings in the mat must snap fully over the retainers so the rear of the mat cannot lift or slide forward.

Removing and Replacing the Floor Mat

1. Pull up on the rear of the mat to unlock and remove.

Lift the mat near the retainer points rather than pulling from the front edge. This helps release the mat without bending it or stressing the carpet retainers.

2. Reinstall the floor mat by lining up the floor mat openings over the carpet retainers and snapping into position.

Press directly over each retainer until the mat seats flat against the carpet. The mat should not bunch, fold, or sit on top of the accelerator or brake pedal area.

3. Make sure the floor mat is properly secured and verify that it does not interfere with the pedals.

After installation, move each pedal through its normal travel with the vehicle safely parked. The mat must stay in place and leave clear space around the accelerator and brake pedal.

Knob Retainer

Floor mats with a knob retainer are held by a floor-mounted knob that passes through a slot in the floor mat grommet. The knob must be turned into the locked position after the mat is placed on the floor.

Removing and Replacing the Floor Mat

1. Turn the knob until it is aligned with the slot in the floor mat grommet.

2. Pull up on the floor mat.

Lift the mat evenly and avoid twisting it around the retainer. If the mat resists, check the knob alignment before pulling harder.

3. Center the slot in the floor mat grommet with the knob on the floor and set into position.

4. Turn the knob until it is perpendicular to the slot in the grommet to lock the mat in place.

When locked, the knob should prevent the mat from lifting or moving forward. The mat should sit flat, with no raised edge near the pedals.

5. Make sure the floor mat is properly secured and verify that it does not interfere with the pedals.

Before driving the Buick Enclave, check the driver-side floor mat by pressing it lightly with your foot and confirming it does not slide. This simple check is especially useful after cleaning the interior, removing the mat, or replacing it with a new one.
