Buick Enclave: General Information

Buick Enclave 2008-2017 Owners Manual / Service and Maintenance / General Information

Your vehicle is an important investment. This section describes the required maintenance for the vehicle. Following the maintenance schedule helps protect against major repair expenses that can result from neglect, missed inspections, or inadequate service. It can also help maintain the vehicle's value if it is sold.

It is the responsibility of the owner to have all required maintenance performed. Keeping records of completed service is also helpful because it shows when oil changes, inspections, tire rotations, fluid checks, and other work were done.

Your dealer has trained technicians who can perform required maintenance using genuine replacement parts.

They have up-to-date tools and equipment for fast and accurate diagnostics. Many dealers have extended evening and Saturday hours, courtesy transportation, and online scheduling to assist with service needs.

Your dealer recognizes the importance of providing competitively priced maintenance and repair services. With trained technicians, the dealer is the place for routine maintenance such as oil changes and tire rotations, as well as additional maintenance items like tires, brakes, batteries, and wiper blades.

For the Buick Enclave, regular maintenance supports dependable starting, smooth operation, proper braking, tire life, fuel economy, and emissions performance. Small services done on time can often prevent larger problems from developing later.

Notice: Damage caused by improper maintenance can lead to costly repairs and may not be covered by the vehicle warranty.

Maintenance intervals, checks, inspections, recommended fluids, and lubricants are important to keep the vehicle in good working condition.

Using the wrong fluid, skipping an inspection, delaying a tire rotation, or ignoring a leak can affect more than one system. Maintenance items are connected: tires affect handling and braking, fluids protect moving parts, and inspections help find wear before a failure occurs.

The Tire Rotation and Required Services are the responsibility of the vehicle owner. It is recommended to have your dealer perform these services every 12 000 km/7,500 mi.

Proper vehicle maintenance helps keep the vehicle in good working condition, improves fuel economy, and reduces vehicle emissions.

Because vehicles are used in different ways, maintenance needs can vary. Some driving conditions require more frequent checks and services than others. Short trips, heavy traffic, hills, towing, extreme temperatures, dusty roads, and stop-and-go driving can place extra demand on many components.

The Additional Required Services - Normal are for vehicles that:

► Carry passengers and cargo within recommended limits on the Tire and Loading Information label. See Vehicle Load Limits.

► Are driven on reasonable road surfaces within legal driving limits.

► Use the recommended fuel.

See Recommended Fuel.

Refer to the information in the Maintenance Schedule Additional Required Services - Normal chart.

Normal service applies when the Buick Enclave is used in typical everyday conditions and is not regularly exposed to heavy-duty demands. Even then, routine checks should not be skipped, because wear and fluid condition still change with time and mileage.

The Additional Required Services - Severe are for vehicles that are:

► Mainly driven in hilly or mountainous terrain.

► Frequently towing a trailer.

► Used for high speed or competitive driving.

► Used for taxi, police, or delivery service.

Refer to the information in the Maintenance Schedule Additional Required Services - Severe chart.

Severe service does not always mean the vehicle is being abused. It simply means the vehicle is working harder than it would under normal conditions. More frequent maintenance may be needed to protect the engine, transmission, brakes, tires, cooling system, and other components.

Warning about injury risk when performing vehicle maintenance workWARNING
Performing maintenance work can be dangerous and can cause serious injury. Perform maintenance work only if the required information, proper tools, and equipment are available.

If they are not, see your dealer to have a trained technician do the work. See Doing Your Own Service Work.

Some maintenance tasks may appear simple but can still involve hot parts, moving components, pressurized fluids, electrical circuits, lifting equipment, or chemical exposure. If the correct procedure is not clear, or if the right tools are not available, the safer choice is to have the work performed by a qualified technician.

Before doing any service work on the Buick Enclave, review the appropriate instructions, allow hot components to cool, wear suitable protection, and make sure the vehicle is parked securely. Careful maintenance helps protect both the vehicle and the person working on it.
