Warning icon about static electricity risk when filling a portable fuel containerWARNING
Never fill a portable fuel container while it is in the vehicle. Static electricity discharge from the container can ignite the fuel vapor. You can be badly burned and the vehicle damaged if this occurs. To help avoid injury to you and others:

► Dispense fuel only into approved containers.

► Do not fill a container while it is inside a vehicle, in a vehicle's trunk, pickup bed, or on any surface other than the ground.
► Bring the fill nozzle in contact with the inside of the fill opening before operating the nozzle. Contact should be maintained until the filling is complete.

► Do not smoke while pumping fuel.

► Do not use a cellular phone while pumping fuel.

Portable fuel containers must be handled with the same caution as the vehicle fuel tank. Always place the approved container on the ground before filling it. This helps reduce the risk of static electricity buildup and allows the container to remain stable while fuel is dispensed.

Do not fill a portable container inside the Buick Enclave, inside the cargo area, or on any plastic-lined surface. Fuel vapor can collect quickly, and static discharge can ignite it without warning. Keep the nozzle in contact with the container opening throughout the filling process, fill slowly, and stop before the container is completely full so fuel has room to expand.

After filling, close the portable container securely and wipe away any spilled fuel before transporting it. Keep the container upright, properly sealed, and secured so it cannot tip, slide, or leak while the vehicle is moving.
