Buick Enclave: Anti-theft Alarm System. Immobilizer. Immobilizer Operation
Anti-theft Alarm System
On vehicles equipped with an anti-theft alarm system, the system can be activated in the following way:
► Press
on the Remote Keyless Entry
(RKE) transmitter or use the power door lock switch while any door is open.

The security light will begin to flash.
After the door is closed, the security light stops flashing and remains steadily illuminated for about 30 seconds.
The content theft-deterrent alarm is not fully armed until the security light turns off.
If delayed locking is active, the alarm will not arm until all doors are closed and the security light has gone out.
► Press
when the driver door is closed.
The security light comes on steadily for approximately 30 seconds and then turns off.
The content theft-deterrent alarm is not armed until the security light goes off.
The theft-deterrent system will not activate if the doors are locked with the vehicle key or by using the manual door lock.
If a locked door is opened without using the RKE transmitter, a 10-second pre-alarm begins.
During this pre-alarm period, the horn chirps and the lights flash.
If the key is not inserted into the ignition and turned to START, or if the door is not unlocked by pressing
during the 10-second
pre-alarm, the full alarm will activate.
The headlamps flash and the horn sounds for about 30 seconds, then the system turns off to help preserve battery power.
The vehicle can still be started with the correct ignition key, even if the alarm has been triggered.
To help avoid accidentally setting off the alarm:
► Lock the Buick Enclave with the door key only after all doors are closed.
► Unlock the door with the RKE transmitter. If the system has been armed, unlocking a door by another method can trigger the alarm.
Press
or place the key in the ignition
and turn it to START to turn off the alarm.
Testing the Alarm
To test the alarm system:
1. From inside the vehicle, lower the driver-side window and open the driver door.
2. Press
.
3. Exit the vehicle, close the door, and wait until the security light turns off.
4. Reach through the open window, unlock the door using the manual door lock, and open the door.
This should trigger the alarm.
If the alarm does not sound when it should, but the headlamps flash, check whether the horn is working.
The horn fuse may be blown.
To replace the fuse, see Fuses and Circuit Breakers.
If the alarm does not sound and the headlamps do not flash, have the Buick Enclave inspected by your dealer.
Immobilizer
See Radio Frequency Statement for information about Part 15 of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) rules and Industry Canada Standards RSS-GEN/210/220/310.
Immobilizer Operation
This vehicle is equipped with the PASS-Key® III+ Personalized Automotive Security System, a theft-deterrent system designed to help prevent unauthorized starting.
PASS-Key III+ operates as a passive theft-deterrent system.
The system arms automatically when the key is removed from the ignition.
It disarms automatically when the key is turned from LOCK/OFF to ON/RUN, ACC/ACCESSORY, or START.
No separate action is required to manually arm or disarm the system.
The security light turns on if there is a problem with arming or disarming the theft-deterrent system.
When the PASS-Key III+ system detects an incorrect key, the vehicle will not start. The large number of possible electrical key codes helps discourage anyone from trying keys by trial and error.
If the engine does not start and the security light on the instrument panel comes on during the starting attempt, there may be a problem with the theft-deterrent system.
Turn the ignition off, then try to start the vehicle again.
If the engine still does not start and the key appears undamaged, try another ignition key and check the fuses. See Fuses and Circuit Breakers for additional information. If the engine still does not start with another key, the vehicle needs service. If the Buick Enclave starts with the second key, the first key may be faulty. See your dealer, who can service the PASS-Key III+ system and provide a new key if needed. In an emergency, contact Roadside Assistance.
See Roadside Assistance Program (U.S. and Canada) or Roadside Assistance Program (Mexico).
The PASS-Key III+ decoder can learn the transponder value of a new or replacement key.
Up to 10 keys may be programmed to the vehicle. The following procedure is intended only for adding extra keys. If all currently programmed keys are lost or no longer operate, see your dealer or a locksmith who can service PASS-Key III+ to have new keys made and programmed.
See your dealer or a qualified locksmith who can service PASS-Key III+ to obtain a new key blank cut exactly like the ignition key that already operates the system.
To program a new additional key:
1. Verify that the new key has a
stamped on it.
2. Insert the already programmed key into the ignition and start the engine. If the engine does not start, see your dealer for service.
3. After the engine starts, turn the key to LOCK/OFF and remove it.
4. Within five seconds after turning the original key to LOCK/OFF, insert the key to be programmed and turn it to the ON/RUN position.
The security light turns off once the key has been programmed successfully.
5. Repeat Steps 1 through 4 for any additional keys that need to be programmed.
If a PASS-Key III+ key is lost or damaged, see your dealer or a qualified locksmith to have a new key made.
The SERVICE THEFT DETERRENT SYSTEM message appears on the Driver Information Center (DIC) when the theft-deterrent system has a problem. See Anti-theft Alarm System Messages for additional information.
Do not leave the key or any device that can disarm or deactivate the theft-deterrent system inside the vehicle.
For better everyday security, keep all Buick Enclave keys in a safe place, replace damaged keys promptly, and avoid storing spare keys or alarm-disarming devices inside the cabin.
