Buick Enclave: Engine Oil Life System. Driving for Better Fuel Economy. Roadside Assistance Program

Buick Enclave 2008-2017 Owners Manual / In Brief / Performance and Maintenance / Engine Oil Life System. Driving for Better Fuel Economy. Roadside Assistance Program

Engine Oil Life System

The engine oil life system estimates when the engine oil and filter should be replaced by monitoring vehicle use and operating conditions. When service is required, the CHANGE ENGINE OIL SOON message appears to let the driver know that maintenance should be performed.

The oil life system should be reset to 100% only after the engine oil and filter have been changed. Resetting it without completing the oil service can lead to inaccurate maintenance tracking.

Resetting the Oil Life System

1. Turn the ignition to ON/RUN while keeping the engine off.
2. Press the vehicle information button until OIL LIFE REMAINING appears on the display.
3. Press and hold the set/reset button until “100%” is shown.

Three chimes will sound, and the CHANGE ENGINE OIL SOON message will turn off.

4. Turn the key to LOCK/OFF.

See Engine Oil Life System.

Driving for Better Fuel Economy

Driving style has a direct effect on fuel consumption. Smooth operation, proper maintenance, and smart trip planning can help the Buick Enclave use fuel more efficiently in daily driving.

► Avoid quick starts and accelerate smoothly.

► Brake gradually and avoid sudden stops whenever possible.

► Do not allow the engine to idle for long periods of time.

► When road and weather conditions allow, use cruise control to help maintain a steady speed.

► Always follow posted speed limits, or drive more slowly when traffic, weather, or road conditions require it.

► Keep the tires inflated to the recommended pressure.

► Combine several short trips into one longer trip when practical.

► Replace tires with the same TPC Spec number molded into the tire sidewall near the tire size.

► Follow the recommended maintenance schedule for the vehicle.

Small habits make a noticeable difference over time: steady throttle input, correct tire pressure, and regular service help reduce unnecessary fuel use without changing how the vehicle is used every day.
