Buick Enclave: Connections. Diagnostics

Buick Enclave 2008-2017 Owners Manual / OnStar / OnStar Services / Connections. Diagnostics

Connections

OnStar Hands-Free Calling allows calls to be made and received from the vehicle. This feature is designed to help the driver communicate while keeping hands on the wheel and attention focused on driving. The vehicle can also be controlled from a cell phone through the OnStar mobile app, depending on equipment, service plan, device compatibility, and cellular coverage. See www.onstar.com for coverage maps.

Connection features may include calling, remote access, vehicle status checks, and communication with an OnStar Advisor. Availability can vary by model year, region, active service plan, and network conditions.

Hands-Free Calling

1. Push OnStar voice command button for hands-free calling. System responds:

“OnStar ready.”
2. Say “Dial.” System responds:

“Please say the name or number to call.”
3. Say the entire number without pausing, including a “1” and the area code. System responds: “OK calling.”

Speak the number clearly and avoid long pauses between digits. If the system does not recognize the command correctly, wait for the prompt and try again when the cabin is quieter.

Retrieve My Number

1. Push Voice command button for retrieving the OnStar Hands-Free Calling number. System responds:

“OnStar ready.”
2. Say “My Number.” System responds: “Your OnStar Hands-Free Calling number is.”

This command can be useful when setting up contact information, giving the vehicle’s calling number to someone, or confirming the number assigned to the system.

End a Call

Push OnStar voice command button for ending a hands-free call. System responds:

“Call ended.”

Ending the call through the vehicle controls helps keep the process simple and avoids handling a separate device while driving.

Store a Name Tag for Speed Dialing

1. Push OnStar voice command button for storing a speed dial name tag. System responds:

“OnStar ready.”
2. Say “Store.” System responds:

“Please say the number you would like to store.”
3. Say the entire number without pausing. System responds:

“Please say the name tag.”
4. Pick a name tag. “System responds: ”About to store <name tag>. Does that sound OK?”
5. Say “Yes” or “No” to try again.

System responds: “OK, storing <name tag>.”

Choose a name tag that is simple, distinct, and easy for the system to recognize. Short names or clear phrases usually work better than words that sound similar to other stored contacts.

Place a Call Using a Stored Number

1. Push Voice command button for calling a stored OnStar name tag. System responds:

“OnStar ready.”
2. Say “Call <name tag>.” System responds: “OK, calling <name tag>.”

This can make frequent calls easier from the vehicle, especially when the stored name tag is short and clearly spoken.

Verify Minutes and Expiration

Push OnStar voice command button for checking remaining calling minutes and expiration and say “minutes” then “verify” to check how many minutes remain and their expiration date.

Checking minutes regularly can help avoid an unexpected interruption in calling availability, especially before longer trips or when the feature is used often.

OnStar Mobile App

With an iPhone® or Android™-based mobile device, an OnStar mobile app can be downloaded. If the vehicle is properly equipped and the service is active, the app can remote start the vehicle, unlock the doors, and provide access to selected vehicle information from almost anywhere there is cell phone service.

The app can also check the fuel level, tire pressure, and oil life. These features help owners monitor important vehicle information before leaving home, during travel, or when another driver is using the vehicle. For a Buick Enclave owner, remote access can be especially convenient during cold mornings, hot weather, or busy family schedules.

The app can connect to an OnStar Advisor anytime, subject to service availability. For OnStar mobile app compatibility or further information, see www.onstar.com. Before relying on remote features, confirm that the account is active, the mobile device is compatible, and the vehicle is parked in an area with cellular coverage.

Diagnostics

OnStar Vehicle Diagnostics can perform a vehicle check every month to help monitor important operating systems and give the owner a clearer picture of vehicle condition. The diagnostic check is designed to review major areas such as the engine, transmission, antilock brake system, and other key vehicle systems that may affect performance, reliability, or safety.

If the Buick Enclave is equipped with the Tire Pressure Monitoring System, OnStar Vehicle Diagnostics can also check tire pressure information. This can be helpful for identifying a low tire before it becomes a roadside problem, although it does not replace regular visual tire inspections or checking tire pressure with an accurate gauge when needed.

If a diagnostics check is needed between scheduled e-mail reports, push OnStar diagnostics button for requesting an advisor system check, and an Advisor can run a check. This can be useful when a warning light appears, the vehicle begins to behave differently, or the owner wants a quick review of selected systems before a trip.

OnStar diagnostics can help identify certain system concerns, but it should not be treated as a complete mechanical inspection. If the vehicle has unusual noises, fluid leaks, vibration, reduced braking performance, overheating, smoke, or drivability concerns, the vehicle should be inspected by a qualified technician.
