Buick Enclave: CD/DVD Player

Buick Enclave 2008-2017 Owners Manual / Infotainment System / Audio Players / CD/DVD Player

Playing a CD (In Either the DVD or CD Slot)

To play a CD in the Buick Enclave, insert the disc partway into the selected slot with the label side facing up. The player will pull the disc in automatically, and playback should begin after the system reads the media. Loading time can vary depending on the disc type, condition, and format. A standard CD may begin playing in about five to 20 seconds, while a DVD may take up to 30 seconds before playback starts.

If the ignition or radio is turned off while a CD remains in the player, the disc stays inside the unit. When the ignition or radio is turned on again, the CD resumes from the point where it stopped, as long as it was the last selected audio source.

The CD can be controlled from the buttons on the radio faceplate or, when equipped, from the Rear Seat Audio (RSA) unit. See Rear Seat Audio (RSA) System  for more information. The DVD/CD decks are arranged with the DVD deck in the upper slot and the CD deck in the lower slot. These decks are compatible with most standard audio CDs, CD-R discs, CD-RW discs, and supported MP3/WMA formats.

When a CD is inserted, the DVD or CD text label or symbol appears on the left side of the radio display, helping identify which source is active.

Each time a new track begins playing, the track number appears on the display.

Buick Enclave CD eject button for the lower disc slot CD (Eject): Press and release this button to eject the disc that is currently playing from the lower CD slot. A beep sounds, and Ejecting Disc appears on the display. After the disc is ejected, Remove Disc appears, and the disc can be removed from the slot.

If the disc is not removed after several seconds, the player automatically pulls it back into the slot to help protect the disc and the loading mechanism.

DVD eject button for the upper disc slot DVD (Eject): Press and release this button to eject the disc that is currently playing in the upper DVD slot.

► A beep sounds, and Ejecting Disc appears on the display.

If the system cannot complete loading or reading a disc, and the disc does not eject normally, press and hold DVD eject button used to force eject a stuck disc DVD for more than five seconds to force the disc to eject.

Tune control for selecting tracks on the current CD (Tune): Turn this control to select tracks on the CD that is currently playing.

Seek back button for returning to the start of the current track: Press SEEK button for moving between CD tracks SEEK to return to the start of the current track if the track has played for more than five seconds. If the track has played for less than five seconds, the previous track will play.

Press Seek forward button for moving to the next track  to go to the next track.

If either arrow is held down, or pressed repeatedly, the player continues moving backward or forward through the tracks on the CD.

Fast reverse button for moving backward within a track REV (Fast Reverse): Press and hold this button to move quickly backward within the current track. Audio can still be heard, but at a reduced volume. Release the button to resume normal playback. The elapsed time of the track appears on the display.

Fast forward button for moving forward within a track FWD (Fast Forward): Press and hold this button to move quickly forward within the current track. Audio can still be heard at a reduced volume during fast forward. Release the button to continue normal playback. The elapsed track time appears on the display.

RDM (Random): The random feature allows CD tracks to play in a mixed order instead of following the normal track sequence. To use random playback, press the softkey under the RDM tab until Random Current Disc appears on the display.

Press the same softkey again to turn random play off and return to normal track order.

BAND: Press this button to listen to the radio while a CD or DVD is playing.

The CD or DVD remains inside the radio so it can be selected again later for continued listening or viewing.

DVD/CD/AUX (Auxiliary): Press this button to switch between DVD, CD, or an auxiliary input source.

► If an auxiliary input device is not connected, “No Aux Input Device” appears on the display.

► When a disc is inserted in either slot, the DVD/CD text tab appears, along with a message showing the track or chapter number.

► If an auxiliary input device is not connected and discs are loaded in both the DVD slot and the CD slot, the DVD/CD/AUX button cycles only between those two disc sources and does not display “No Aux Input Device.” If a front auxiliary input device is connected, the DVD/CD/AUX button cycles through all available source options.

If a disc is inserted into the upper DVD slot, the rear seat operator can turn on the video screen and use the remote control. When an audio CD is being played from that slot, the remote control can be used only to navigate the CD tracks.

See Auxiliary Devices  or “Audio/Video (A/V) Jacks” under, Rear Seat Entertainment (RSE) System  for more information.

Care of CDs and DVDs

When playing a CD-R or CD-RW, sound quality may vary depending on the quality of the disc, the recording method, the condition of the recorded files, and how the disc has been handled. For reliable playback in the Buick Enclave audio system, handle all CDs and DVDs carefully and use discs that are clean and in good condition.

Store CD-R and CD-RW discs in their original cases or in other protective cases. Keep them away from direct sunlight, dust, heat, and moisture. The CD or DVD player reads the bottom surface of the disc. If that surface is cracked, broken, scratched, dirty, or otherwise damaged, the disc may not play correctly or may not play at all.

Do not touch the bottom side of a CD or DVD while handling it, because fingerprints, dirt, or scratches can affect playback. Pick up discs by holding the outer edges, or by holding the center hole and the outer edge.

If the surface of a CD is dirty, clean it with a soft, lint-free cloth. If needed, slightly dampen a clean, soft cloth with a mild, neutral detergent solution mixed with water. Wipe from the center of the disc straight outward toward the edge. Avoid wiping in a circular motion, because this can make scratches more likely to affect playback.

Care of the CD and DVD Player

Do not attach paper labels, adhesive labels, or stickers to a CD, because they can loosen during playback and become caught inside the CD or DVD player. If a CD has been recorded on a personal computer and a description is needed, mark only the top side of the disc with a suitable marking pen. This helps identify the disc without adding material that could interfere with the player mechanism.

The use of CD lens cleaners is not advised. These products may not be suitable for the Buick Enclave audio system and could affect the CD or DVD player mechanism.

Notice: If a label is added to a CD, more than one CD is inserted into the slot at the same time, or an attempt is made to play scratched, warped, cracked, or damaged CDs, the CD player could be damaged. While using the CD player, use only CDs that are in good condition and do not have added labels. Load only one CD at a time, and keep the CD player and loading slot free of foreign materials, liquids, dust, and debris.

If an error message appears on the display, see “CD Messages” later in this section.

Radios with CD and DVD Audio Output

Only one audio source can be played through the vehicle speakers at a time. An audio source may be the DVD slot, CD slot, XM, FM/AM radio, front auxiliary jack, or rear auxiliary jack.

Press Power button for turning on the Buick Enclave radio system to turn the radio on.

When the radio is on, the selected audio source can be heard through all vehicle speakers unless another system setting changes speaker output.

Front seat passengers can listen to AM, FM, or XM radio by pressing BAND. They can also press DVD/CD AUX to select the CD slot, DVD slot, front auxiliary input, or rear auxiliary input when those sources are available.

If a playback device is connected to the front auxiliary input jack or the rear auxiliary jack, front seat passengers can listen to that device through the vehicle speakers. This allows external audio sources to be used with the Buick Enclave sound system when properly connected.

See Auxiliary Devices  or “Audio/Video (A/V) Jacks” under Rear Seat Entertainment (RSE) System  for more information.

In some vehicles, depending on the installed audio options, the rear speakers may be muted when RSA power is turned on. See Rear Seat Audio (RSA) System  for more information.

Playing an MP3/WMA CD-R or CD-RW Disc

The radio can play MP3/WMA files recorded on a CD-R or CD-RW disc, provided the disc format and file structure are supported by the system. For more information about playing an MP3/WMA CD-R or CD-RW disc, see MP3 (Radio with CD/USB)  or MP3 (Radio with CD/DVD) .

CD Messages

Optical Error: The disc was inserted upside down. Remove the disc and insert it again with the label side facing up.

Disk Read Error: A disc was inserted with an invalid, unsupported, or unknown format. The player cannot read the disc in its current format.

Player Error: There is a problem with disc loading or disc eject operation.

► The player or cabin temperature may be very hot. When the temperature returns to normal, the CD should play.

► The road surface may be very rough.

When the road becomes smoother, the CD should play normally again.

► The CD may be dirty, scratched, wet, damaged, or inserted upside down.

► The air may be very humid. If this is the case, wait about an hour and try playing the disc again.

► There may have been a problem while the CD was being burned or recorded.

► A label or foreign material may be caught inside the CD player.

If the CD is not playing correctly for another reason, try a known good CD. This can help determine whether the problem is with the disc or with the Buick Enclave audio system.

If any error occurs repeatedly, or if an error cannot be corrected through normal operation, contact your dealer. If the radio displays an error message, write it down and provide it to your dealer when reporting the problem. This information can help with diagnosis and service.

Using the DVD Player

The DVD player can be controlled by the buttons on the remote control, the Rear Seat Audio (RSA) system, or the buttons on the radio faceplate. This allows DVD operation to be managed from different areas of the vehicle, depending on the equipment being used and the seating position of the passenger.

See “Remote Control” under Rear Seat Entertainment (RSE) System  and Rear Seat Audio (RSA) System  for more information.

The DVD player is compatible only with DVDs that have the correct region code. The region code is usually printed on the jacket or packaging of most DVDs.

The DVD slot of the radio is compatible with most audio CDs, CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-Video, DVD-Audio, DVD-R/RW, and DVD+R/RW media, along with supported MP3 and WMA formats.

If an error message appears on the video screen or radio display, see “DVD Display Error Messages” under Rear Seat Entertainment (RSE) System  and “DVD Radio Error Messages” in this section for more information.

Inserting a Disc

To play a disc, gently insert it into the loading slot with the label side facing up. The DVD player pulls the disc in and begins the loading process. Some discs with paper labels may not be accepted by the player, because labels can interfere with the loading mechanism or disc reading.

While the disc is loading, the Buick Enclave radio display shows “Loading Disc.” At the same time, the radio may display a softkey menu with available options.

Some discs begin playing the movie automatically. Other discs open to a menu first and require Play, Enter, or Navigation to be selected. These selections can be made by using the softkeys on the radio or by a rear seat passenger using the remote control.

It may take up to 30 seconds for a DVD to begin playing, depending on the disc format, condition, and menu structure.
