Halogen Bulbs

WARNING
Halogen bulbs have pressurized gas inside and can burst if you drop or scratch the bulb. You or others could be injured. Be sure to read and follow the instructions on the bulb package.

Halogen bulbs must be handled carefully because their glass capsules operate at high temperatures and contain pressurized gas. Dropping, scratching, striking, or installing a damaged bulb can cause it to fail suddenly. Always follow the bulb package instructions, use the correct replacement part, and avoid forcing the bulb into the socket.

Before installation, inspect the bulb and socket area for corrosion, dirt, or signs of heat damage. A clean and secure connection helps the lamp operate reliably and reduces the chance of intermittent lighting problems.

High Intensity Discharge (HID) Lighting

The low beam high intensity discharge lighting system operates at a very high voltage.

If you try to service any of the system components, you could be seriously injured. Have your dealer or a qualified technician service them.

High Intensity Discharge lighting systems are different from standard halogen systems. They use high voltage components to operate the low-beam lamps, and improper handling can create a serious shock hazard. For this reason, service to HID components should be performed only by trained personnel with the proper tools and safety procedures.

After an HID headlamp bulb has been replaced, the beam might be a slightly different shade than it was originally. This is normal. HID bulbs can vary slightly in color during their early operating period, and the appearance may change as the bulb settles through use.

For the Buick Enclave, maintaining the correct HID components helps preserve both nighttime visibility and the intended appearance of the front lighting system. If one lamp appears much dimmer, flickers, changes color dramatically, or does not turn on, the system should be inspected instead of replacing parts at random.

Taillamps, Turn Signal, Sidemarker, and Stoplamps

The rear lighting assembly includes lamps that help other drivers see the vehicle, understand when it is braking, and recognize turning or lane-change intentions. Working taillamps, stoplamps, turn signals, and sidemarker lamps are essential for safe driving, especially at night, in rain, in fog, or during heavy traffic.

To replace one of these bulbs:

1. Open the liftgate. See Liftgate.

2. Remove the black cuff from the lamp assembly by pulling rearward from the top to unfasten it from the snap tabs. Work carefully so the trim does not crack or bend.

3. Remove the two hex nuts holding the taillamp assembly in place.

4. Pull out the taillamp assembly. Support the lamp as it comes away from the body so the wiring and connector are not strained.

5. Turn the bulb socket counterclockwise and pull it straight out to remove it.

6. Replace the bulb. Make sure the new bulb is the correct type and is fully seated in the socket.

7. Reverse Steps 3 through 5 to reinstall the taillamp assembly.

When reinstalling the taillamp assembly, the pin on the taillamp assembly must line up and be inserted correctly into the opening. Proper alignment helps the lamp sit flush with the body and prevents stress on the mounting points.

8. Replace the black cuff over the lamp assembly by pushing it into the snap tabs.

After the repair, test the rear lamps before driving. Check the taillamps, brake lamps, turn signals, and sidemarker lamps to confirm that each function operates correctly.
